For 4 years, I have been driving down I84 through Waterbury, CT to get to the faire. Every time through, I see this giant Easter Island Moai in the middle of the city. Finally, on my way home after the end of faire, I decided to stop and see what the heck it was. Unfortunately, I didn't learn a whole lot. It is part of TimeExpo in the corner of a mall parking lot. I'm not sure if TimeExpo is a museum, or just a big Timex store. There is a plaque at the base of the statue, but it was fenced off and I couldn't get close. So I still don't know why it is there... The funniest thing is as I was getting back into my car, a pimply faced, mall security guard came up and told me that I wasn't allowed to take pictures on mall property... OK... I should have asked him why the Moai was there, but I got the impression that his reaction would have been "The what?"
If you know why this giant Moai is in the middle of Waterbury,
